What to Give the Yogi in Your Life

Here are some gift ideas from the Yogi Muse, who when she’s not musin’, she’s shoppin’:Yogi Muse’s Gift List for the Yogi in Your Life

  • Bath Items:  Any yogi would appreciate bath salts, or bath bombs, or bath oils, or just plain taking a bath.   And an hour uninterrupted would be really great too.
  • A Pedicure.  A yogi’s foot is not their most beautiful part, but should be.
  • A Massage.  Always appreciated.
  • Yoga classes.  Give a class pack or a private lesson.  That way, when December hits and everyone is gone the studios can stay in business too.
  • A Yoga Retreat. On the beach yoga is even better (so I’m told).
  • Yoga Anytime.  YogaGlo is the best thing to happen to the internet since, well, the internet. Give a subscription.
  • Leg Warmers.  I recently received a pair and I can’t remember what I ever did before I had them.  They keep me warm and toasty to and from the studio.
  • Fleece scarf and hat.  Yogis are often sweaty and wet, and always appreciate warmth.
  • A Juicer.  Yogis need good nutrition and a fresh green drink is a great way to recharge.
  • Environmentally Conscious Gifts:  Yogis care.  They love reusable bags, organic items and handmade ornaments from Peru that cost a freaking fortune but you helped a woman in a hut somewhere feed her children (It was sooo cute!).  A Tesla would be great too.

Yogi Muse’s Shopping Plan: One Green ThingIt’s hard to be perfect, so instead, aim for better.  I am going to do just one green thing this holiday season, whenever I can, then I’m a little ahead of the game.  Therefore, my shopping plan is pretty simple:

  • Always carry a bag.  I keep a little rolled up bag in my purse all the time.
  • Forget wrapping.  I gave this up a long time ago anyway.  It takes time and it takes trees.  Or try wrapping in a cloth with a ribbon you can re-use.
  • Shop local, organic and environmentally conscious.  Whenever you can, support your local businesses.  If you don’t use the restaurant on the corner or the small yoga studio then don’t be surprised when it closes in this economy.  That is kind of how 'use it or lose it' works in the world.

Michelle Berman Marchildon is the YogiMuse.  She’s the author of “Finding More on the Mat”, a yoga memoir available in January.  You can find her blog at www.YogiMuse.com.
